FORTY YEARS IN THE MAKING - The Story So Far

The road to establishing Clitheroe's local masjid has been a lengthy one. After decades of fighting for the right to worship in our home town, planning permission was finally granted on 21st December 2006 for development of the historic Mount Vale building to be converted to the area's very first masjid.

However the journey towards acceptance has been long and arduous. We have faced regulatory obstacles, prejudice and religious discrimination from some sections of the community opposed to the idea of a masjid in the town.

Over the years however, as Muslims we have strived to play a pivotal role in community life as a means of expressing our Islamic obligation of good citizenship and impeccable character, and through demonstrating our commitment to the local community we have been able to overcome many of the challenges that faced us.

It's difficult to fathom, but the Muslim community in Clitheroe have struggled and persisted for forty years in the face of overwhelming prejudice and adversity to win their right to a masjid. Many of our fathers and grandfathers have since passed away, never being able to fulfil their dream of worshipping in congregation in their local masjid.

Today, with the grace of Almighty Allah the regulatory obstacles have been overcome and we stand on the brink of establishing Clitheroe's first masjid, so that we, the wider community and generations to come can benefit from the sweet experience of a House in this town dedicated to the worship of the One God - Allah.
